Teaching Textbooks

Teaching Textbooks are my hero. When they arrived in the mail, it was like Christmas had come early. No, not that grown up Christmas of cash strapped and frazzled frenzy. Rather that Christmas of early childhood, when Santa may just be possible, everything on your list was within a parent's reach and waiting under the tree to be unwrapped come Christmas morning.

(o.k. so maybe we're talking about early childhood of a bygone era, back before babies navigate swipe and fling apps before they're 3)

Still, I was giddy opening the package...
I was never as excited about math while a student as I am about facilitating this program...but the kids don't need to know that.

One last grade level to install and we'll be set for school to start on Tuesday.

In the meantime, I think Santa needs a cookie...

Football Season 2012

Season's Greetings!
(Football Season, of course...)

Mending Muppy (the Purple Puppy)

Our baby has a streak of Vegas in her veins- anytime she spies a coin-op claw game, she puts up a fuss til we drop in whatever pocket change we can scrounge up... (who carries actual money anymore?)

Muppy the Purple Puppy was a prize from one of our luckier nights-as lucky as a fixed game can be I suppose... I had put a dollar bill in the machine (sorry waitress, your tip just got lighter, but the baby's gotta play...) Won Muppy first grab and nothing on the required second swoop... oh well.

I wouldn't have paid a buck for the dog under other circumstances, but for that RyeBird's smile?
Any price.

So, Muppy has been a constant companion since that lucky day.
Muppy's ear however, hasn't been so lucky, having found employment as a tote handle.

It was bound to happen...

We had to "Doc McStuffins" the dog immediately...

Muppy is recovering nicely.
And yes, those are underpants Muppy has on...
but that's another story.

SCHOOL DAYS

SCHOOL STARTS TUESDAY!

Are you ready?

Pompom Girl

She's going to cheer with UpWards this Fall...

'ka-kow'

Our field trip to Peterbrooke Chocolatier included a lesson on where chocolate comes from both in nature and geographically speaking, the proper pronunciation of cacao ( 'ka-kow') a taste test of the different "levels" of chocolate and most importantly the opportunity to dip various things in chocolate and take them home to indulge in later.
Our Chocolate Wonder Chef was Sandy, a.k.a. Lovie, the store's proprietor. I enjoyed watching her lead the camp and enjoyed her demeanor with the children. She's a nice lady, ya'll.
Unfortunately, my phone had already been used to entertain RyeBird before we arrived and my battery died out before the camp ended... there aren't as many pictures as I would have liked to take- though some were taken by the store that I hope to be able to share soon.
School isn't officially back in swing until after Labor Day (cause, why?) But this was a sweet way to end the summer and kick off our hands on activities for the year... and, as for the chocolate store? We'll be back for tasty treats throughout the Fall and Holiday seasons and just for a friendly chat as time allows.

A Family Affair

Family Blogging over HERE at the moment... gonna let the BigUn's try their hand at blogging this school year... maybe.

(Relinquishing creative control isn't easy...)

Either way, family updates via blog are meant to replace the evils of Facebook while allowing continued contact with those who like to know what we're up to (Hey, Grammy!).

The secondary idea is that, perhaps "family style" blogging will hold me accountable to only use the power of blogging for good, instead of the always inevitable inward contemplation... which we all know never amounts to anything good.

I'm a mess in there.

Looking back is only useful when  driving...

BREWER PAGE

We've departed Facebook (again)

...for now anyhow...

But we still want to keep in touch.

And we intend to keep everyone updated with pictures and current events right here...

...for really real this time...

So, we've updated our WIX page (again)

(we are too 'thrifty' to buy a domain for something we will largely neglect)

As a placeholder page, the WIX site will mostly serve to route folks back here where all the updating action takes place...but there IS a handy email form over there...

If you'd like to be notified when we DO get around to updating this site, sign in here and you'll occasionally receive an email alert :

...SUCH A LOVELY PLACE...

Another attempt at ESCAPE from the world of Facebook- where truly you can check out but never leave... {cue Hotel California}...all family photos, videos, updates, newsletters, confessions & gossip should be found right here (until one of us caves and logs back in...)
