Happy Birthday Grammy

Happy Birthday Grammy!

We are blessed to have you as "Momma" & "Grammy"

Without you, we wouldn't sing " I see the moon" or a dozen other songs.

It is unlikely that we would sing at all.

You love so many of us, so thoroughly, so well.

You spend your time on us, you spend your prayers.

Thank you for fun childhoods.

For teaching the joy of children and the value of remaining one at heart.

Thank you for the love of music. And color.  And art.

To the moon and back for sure,
We love you a million miles and more.

Family Birthday

She said "I NEED A PARTY HAT!"
We sometimes call our anniversary a "Family Birthday". Especially during seasons where sitters are scarce and we will be celebrating with the entire family. This was one of those celebrations. We have been very busy with baseball & the business and our family's 'birthday' fell during a particularly Extra Busy Weekend. On Wednesday night, as everyone was busy with Duck Dynasty (I tuned in from my dish washing station in the kitchen) I secretly concocted one of Clay's preferred treats: Jello Cake.
(He's forever in the debt of his mother in law for the passing down of this recipe :)

One thing about Jell-O cake is that it calls for Whipped topping- an element that always makes for a decorating challenge... a blank, white, slippery canvas to be improved upon.

I began to rifle through Riley's small plastic toys for something quirky when I came to these two finger puppets. I was quickly inspired to dress them up appropriately for an anniversary cake. It's just some scraps of ribbon and a few pins but it took concerted effort to get everything just so.

The Family Birthday/15th Anniversary Jell-o Poke Cake:
When I was in between steps on the cake, I was also secretly working on my special gift to Clay. We have always sort of played with those traditional and modern gift listings- usually picking something with a bit of a twist. According to this year's list, the appropriate gift would be a timepiece or crystal. I figured out a different take on a timepiece and that was the 'serious' gift. But, I couldn't figure out what Clay could really use made out of crystal. Somewhere in the brainstorming process, my brain switched to Krystal. So I made him a tiny Krystal...with real crystal onions. :)~ the 'not-so-serious-or-as-expensive-but-my-favorite' gift"

Final touches on the tiny burger were finished around 1 AM. There were multiple coats of glaze to be applied, and a crack in the box to repair due to some miscalculations on the thickness of the cheese combined with the thickness of the mustard...

And then- it was cake for breakfast. Jell-o cake never lasts long in this house, nor can those who devour restrain their forks for long.
The cake was gone almost as quickly as it was made.
And that is how we kicked off our "Next 15 Years" (just imagining what those years hold...children in college & finding their spouses... maybe even welcoming grandchildren...wild, I tell you. And me?  I'm looking forward to every second of it.

Lovey Gets A Bath

Grammy gave "Lovey" to Riley when she was born.

This large, loveable pink pooch has been through various moves and times of storage; as well as plenty of playtime with Rye.
Because of all the living and loving evident in Lovey's fur, we recently took him to the local laundromat for a quick, sudsy spin and a fluffy air dry... Riley cheered Lovey on the whole way, Fisher cheered Rye on.

Riley and Fisher have similar dispositions towards their stuffed friends-simply put, stuffed animals are real... and the cuter the stuffy, the more in tune with its feelings they seem to be... situations like being put in the washing machine are matters of survival, not just hygiene.

It's cute ~until something tragic happens, like a severed limb   (or ear!)   or a spill over of stuffing or something... you would think we'd lost a family member in the trauma unit should something like that occur. (There was a light stuffing leakage on this day and ALL of my kids thought we'd lost Lovey.)

So, imagine our motley Brew Crew hauling Lovey, the Giant Pink Puppy into the Laundromat; moving from station to station as the mob that we are, creating all the necessary chaos to operate the machines, as we fight for the best 'seat' to watch the 'show'(or camera angle to take pictures, ::guilty gulp::) pummeling & elbowing one another from time to time when someone blocks our view...some of us cheering and shouting at the 'screen' like we were watching that Notorious College Football Championship instead of ...a WASHING MACHINE.

I tell you, we fit right in at the Laundromat! And I cannot wait to go back sometime soon, which we are going to have to do, because I still have sixteen dollars on the Wash & Dry card they make you trade your real money in for. Turns out the math they taught me in school did not cover properly estimating time & money in a laundromat that lists prices like a slot machine... blinky little screen things that they are!

I have got to add two little asides before you get your turn at "Watching-A-Washing-Machine" (sounds like a great new trend to start- quick someone, Pin This!)

1.) As we were talking about this adventure later, Rye said "Lovey go in the dishwasher!" (I think that might be worth a try next time ... I've been needing to mop the floor again anyway.)

2.) There is a thrift store that funds a local pet rescue a few doors down from the laundromat. As we waited on the dryer to finish, we moseyed down to see what we could see. When the lady at the door asked us "Are you looking for anything in particular today?" and I explained "No, ma'm~ we're just washing our dog next door, killing a little time as we wait for him to dry." It really WAS the right thing to do to specify that we were referring to a stuffed dog, but it would have been so much funnier to just leave it at "dog" don't ya think?

VALENTINE

Grammy made & mailed Valentines filled with candy (plus, LOVE obviously)
The candy is almost gone, the paper hearts have been preserved, the LOVE keeps multiplying on infinitely.

Thank You Grammy!

And thank you for the camel too!

Grummy & Grandpa Visit

SUNNY SNAPSHOT
This weekend, Grammy & PaPa came to visit. The Big Kids were excited for days before in anticipation- Chandler sent Google maps to help them arrive at the right place. They worked as a team making up the bed with fresh sheets, creating a pallet on the floor for Logan(she had insisted G&P take her bed instead of going to a hotel). The children were asleep when they arrived (it was after 1 AM) but only a few hours later, we filled the weekend with fun.

On Saturday, we all got up early, ran hard and retired weary. We started with Logan's cheer :
PaPa was allowed to push Rye for 3 whole seconds before she protested... she took her own sweet time warming up to  "Grummy & Grandpa"

I'm smiling because I know they have FREE COFFEE inside :)

Taking a break from the demanding world of cheerleading...
We stopped long enough to get cash from an ATM & tea from Zaxbys (sorry, Uncle Ben!) before heading over to the Babe Ruth Fields.

Chandler & Fisher were on opposite fields, same start time for both games. We were able to base ourselves at the concession area and pivot between Brewer brothers. It was also an ideal spot for staying in the shade.

Baseball is fun
Chandler's Blue Team won 17-4

Fisher's Gold Team won 12-5

And we all know that winning is the only important thing, really. So, it was a good day ;)

On Sunday, it was SLIDERS for lunch...do have the pineapple casserole. Thanks again, Mom & Dad for the treat.

Kites above SLIDERS

The remainder of Sunday was for visiting.

*Grummy and Grandpa- that couple formerly known as Grammy and PaPa- had to go back home on Monday, but not before Grammy & LoLo took to the beach one last time:

Happy Double Nickels  Day PaPa!

Fisher couldn't WAIT for PaPa to open his gift... I think he secretly hoped to try it :)

Grummy always brings fun toys and games

Chandler asked PaPa lots of technical questions about computers and programming

Rye plays with all the fun new things that Grummy brought

Grammy captured my giggling girls (hiding from the Hide-N-Seek Bunny)
Ya'll come back now, ya hear?

 :)

*RyeBird took her own sweet time warming up to both Grummy and Grandpa. When she finally did, she did it on her own terms... changing their names of endearment in the process..
