dream

I dreamt I took a bubble bath in my car. I remember filling it with the shower's head- - and making sure to stand under the spray of water, so as not to get wet. (that makes a whole lotta sense, I know) I dreamt princeCharming was upset about the whole thing and promptly got behind the wheel, not even bothering to drain the tub. (car?) I woke up mad at him for being mad with me and also a little puzzled as to how I got the car in the bathroom in the first place. Must've been something in the water, cause he dreamt about losing his teeth. ( I checked for "bathing in your car" dreams in the dream dictionary (click" teeth ") , but surprisingly found nothing)

R

"R" is for retro and roots, which are kinda the same, but kinda not. Retro- to me anyhow- is the past that I have traveled through. In general, it is bunch of stuff that I have set down in exchange for more modern fads and trends. I personally enjoy embracing those things that are "retro"-- occasionally picking up something probably best left in the 70's or 80's. Check out RETROLAND for a blast of nostalgia (with any luck, it will be just enough to keep you from buying your nostalgia on ebay , only to remember too late why it was that crushed velvet Elvis -( Elvises ?)- went out of style) But when I think about ROOTS, I hear a voice in my head saying " My name is Kunta .... Kunta Kinte " ::CRINGE:: And next in line after that " roots reflex " is the idea of the past that has traveled with me and is still integrated in all facets of my life. Spiritual heritage, especially. Today, in RETRO - I seriously considered buying terry cloth clo...

flipflops

I have worn out my favorite pair of flip flops; a pair that I fell in love with after a chance meeting in Columbia, SC , last spring. We had decided to spend the night after watching Saturday's game, and upon waking up decided on a spontaneous trip to the zoo , but I only had "tall shoes" in tow. Having learned my lesson about wearing proper shoes the hard way, once upon an MCI Heritage walk, I headed to the nearest WalMart , where I realized that they have no sympathy for church skipping zoo patrons before noon(SC has a blue law ) We followed a tip to Target in the next county, where they obviously favor Seventh Day Adventist and allow stores to sell everything from bait to booze ( ok , maybe not booze--I may be exaggerating there) but if you are in need of shoes on Sunday morning, try Target in the non blue law county near the zoo... I'd look it up, but this entry is about the shoes. The black flip flops I bought for our zoo trip quickly became my default pair...

emptyCall

Sometimes I call, and it is just to chat, and it is so you will drown out his voice. Like a siren's beckon to the depths of the sea, the mud reaches out for me. It is too easy, in this town I cannot leave. And I want to play with fire, and I want to get burned. I know it will not quench my thirst, but when I haven't heard from you in a while, really heard your voice in my heart, his voice begins to woo me. The deeper into the desert I wander, the more I believe the mirage; that I could fill my mouth with sun bleached sand and find it refreshing. You are unaware that I am far away and I don't tell you I'm lost when I call. I just say " So, how was your day" and you aren't speaking loud enough, so I hang up, more lost than when I called you. I grasp at things on the way down. I fall in to the music and as long as it tells me the right things to do, we come out fine in the end. But don't let me travel to some old country song, because I'll cross t...

Q

"Q" is for QUALITY. Dad used to work in QC. Spotting and collecting occurrences of the word QUALITY became a family hobby of sorts. The quest for true quality resulted. It makes no sense to value anything less. I am also reminded of BBQ and WBBQ . My brother and I spent more time on the road than Willie Nelson & his friends, and one of the games we were taught to keep occupied is the one I've been playing here on my blog for the last month or so... the ALPHABET GAME ... you started with A and the first player to Z was the winner... as long as you were on the highway, it was smooth sailing and a pretty even playing field. It was on those back country roads, populated only by cotton that things began to get tricky. You could get all the way up to "P" and then be stuck for hours, for lack of a quality "Q" Your best bet was at the end of "B B Q"-- usually painted on a pink pig and hanging in front of a smoking lean-to. But if you got a...
